The rolls are given a perlitic cementitious peripheral zone of high hardness and very good wear characteristics.

The adjacent crossover area consists of perlitic or martensitic matrix with embedded cementite and lamellar graphite giving way to a dense lamellar graphite. The roll bodies are cast solid or hollow and bore machined balanced and ground. The steel shafts are shrunk in and machined ready to install.
